It's always good to come back

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Getting away from the city we’re born in is an act of great courage. Coming back also is. 

Taking over the language from comics and its strips, over the language from the album book and the inseparable relationship between the words and images, Victorino Suazo narrates, through the memories born from a long bus journey, the story of a young man that comes back to his mother’s home. Nostalgia, the passage of time and pop culture references go with the trip from Santiago to a small town south of the country.  

Sometimes I feel the need of feeling the warmth from home again. 

I then take off the weight of the routine and go towards my refuge. 

With my luck cast, a swaying of memories that give my life meaning starts flowing. 

And as I close my eyes I go back to the past… 

 

Victorino Suazo (Victor, his pen name), was born and raised in Chillan. Between 2010 y 2015 he went to the UBB School of Graphic Design in Chillan, a period in which he also took a semester in the UPV Fine Arts Faculty in Valencia. In 2018 he got his diploma in Illustration from the Pontifical Catholic University in Santiago, and currently he’s a graphic designer at day and an illustrator at night, signing as Victorino Suazo.

Salir de la ciudad en la que nacimos es un acto de mucho valor. Volver también. 

Apropiándose del lenguaje del comic y sus viñetas y del lenguaje del libro álbum y la relación inseparable entre las palabras y las imágenes, Victorino Suazo nos narra, a través de los recuerdos que nacen durante el largo viaje en bus, la historia de un joven que vuelve a su casa materna. La nostalgia, el paso del tiempo y las referencias a la cultura popular van acompañando el trayecto desde Santiago hasta alguna pequeña ciudad en el sur. 

A veces siento la necesidad de volver a sentir el calor de mi hogar. 

Entonces me quito el peso de la rutina y voy rumbo a mi refugio. 

Con la suerte echada, comienza a fluir un vaivén de recuerdos que le han dado vida a mi vida. 

Y al cerrar los ojos vuelvo al pasado… 

Victorino Suazo, Víctor (su nombre de pila), nació y creció en Chillán. Entre 2010 y 2015 estudió en la Escuela de Diseño Gráfico UBB (Chillán), periodo en el cual también cursó un semestre en la Facultad de Bellas Artes UPV (Valencia). En 2018 obtuvo el diploma en Ilustración de la Pontificia Universidad Católica (Santiago) y actualmente es diseñador gráfico en el día e ilustrador por las noches, firmando como Victorino Suazo.
